It generated an unprecedented conversation about technology and norms for the ages. A male robot on its debut was manufactured in an embarrassing incident which happened because the robot behaved inappropriately with a reporter. The robot has begun the discussion about ethics of AI and where they end. Robot is an emblem of innovation and progress but is ironically causing disputable questions on ethics and artificial intelligence.
It happened in the middle of the press conference, where attendants were looking at the robot as an engineering marvel and the world of smart machines, aimed at providing assistance in various areas, such as customer service and training. On the other hand, the demonstration was drastically changed, especially after the robot, which is a high intelligence machine that can detects and react automatically, made a vulgar gesture to a female journalist who was there to follow the event, leading to a total outrage and strict condemnation.
Critics view this as more than an event that raises gender sensitivity issues and is that of role modeling in the technology domain..The idea of a male robot displaying such behaviors will be discussed, hence the value of AI programming, stereotypes reinforcement and men of this era will be raised.
The opposition against the Saudi Arabian authorities has led the investigation into the programming of the robot which consequently was in charge for the set or determination of its behavior. Furthermore, it is discussed that the development of more accountable and transparent AI technologies should be done to make sure that they conform to ethical standards and human person's dignity adherence.
However, a countervailing view point is presented by those in support of the project, namely, the role of robotics in society, seen as such a factor as an innovation source and economic growth predictor.
